Suspected criminals pretending to be Amotekun Corps officers raided a mechanic workshop in Osogbo, Osun State, and stole three vehicles and valuable spare parts.
Reportedly, about twenty armed individuals in Hilux vans came to the workshop around 10 am on July 29, 2024, and spent hours there, taking away three customer vehicles.
Owner of the workshop, Babatunde Oyetunji, situated opposite NNPC mega station, confirmed the incident on Friday to the media.
Oyetunji stated, “I was not present when the armed criminals, disguised as Amotekun operatives, invaded my workshop and stole three vehicles with new engines and gears,” as narrated by his apprentices.
He added, “It was described as a major attack. I call on the Inspector General of Police to investigate this abuse of Amotekun uniforms in such a serious crime.”
In response to these accusations, the Public Relations Officer of Amotekun in the state, Abass Yusuf, refuted the claims made by Oyetunji.
Yusuf clarified, “The Osun Amotekun Corps has responded to allegations by Babatunde Oyetunji, an auto mechanic in Osogbo, claiming that the Corps raided his workshop and stole vehicles and spare parts worth millions of naira,” denying any involvement in the incident.
He continued, “We reject the false allegations made about Osun Amotekun Corps invading Oyetunji’s workshop in Osogbo and stealing vehicles and spare parts.
“The public is urged to ignore the misinformation disseminated, as Osun Amotekun Corps was not part of the alleged crime.
“This misinformation seems to be a deliberate attempt to harm the reputation of Osun Amotekun and bring it into disrepute.
“The Corps will take strict action against those spreading false accusations without verifying information with the Corps beforehand, to deter others from tarnishing the Corps’ image.”
