The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is currently looking into the crash of a Sikorsky SK76 helicopter that occurred while traveling to Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The details surrounding the incident that took place on Thursday remain unclear.
A preliminary investigation report is expected to be released within 30 days.
According to reports from Daily Post, the tragic accident resulted in the loss of three lives after the helicopter went down into the water.
The incident happened at approximately 11:22 a.m. in the waterway area.
The Sikorsky SK76, registered as 5NBQG, was operated by East Wind Aviation and was en route from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) to the Nuimantan oil rig.
NSIB Director General, Alex Badeh Jnr, informed Channels Television that the helicopter went down just one kilometer away from its intended destination.
He noted, “The reason for the crash is still unknown, and we anticipate a preliminary report within 30 days.”
While there were eight individuals on board, only three bodies have been recovered so far.
