Yes, Jennifer Lopez has heard about the halftime hate. No, she doesn’t care.
“I think that’s honestly silliness,” Lopez told Variety, with a laugh, while attending the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards. “Both of us are really respectful performers who are moms, who have kids, who are very conscious of what we do,” she said, referring to herself and Shakira. Lopez called their show “a celebration of women and … Latino culture.” She said she doesn’t plan to let that monumental experience be tainted by a “small faction of people who want to be negative about it.” J.Lo added, “[I]t’s not something I can even let in because it was such an amazing night.”
While that could effectively sum up her stance, Jenny from the block drove her position home. “So many beautiful things came out of [the show],” she told Variety, including “the message of standing up for yourself, being a women — that’s what I want to pass on to little girls — that’s what we want to say, you’re strong, you’re beautiful, everything about you, be proud of it.”
