Josh Trank’s Capone starring Tom Hardy goes straight to VOD
Vertical Entertainment has reportedly acquired the North American distribution rights to director Josh Trank’s long-in development biographical crime drama film Capone (formerly titled “Fonzo“) with the MPAA granting it a R-rating for “strong/bloody violence, pervasive language and some sexuality.” The Tom Hardy-led Al Capone has been in development since 2016 and is expected to make its long-awaited debut sometime this year.
According to The Playlist, there is possibility that Capone might forgo its theatrical release and head directly to Digital as Vertical Entertainment is known for releasing films through select theaters and VOD. Given the world’s current situation right now, if the studio is still planning to push through with its 2020 release date, the film’s straight to VOD release is very likely. However, there is also chance that Vertical might schedule the film’s release to a later date or pushed it back to next year.
