Muhuyi Rimingado, head of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), has claimed that a corruption suspect under investigation has enlisted the police to detain him.
Despite the incident, he expressed that he anticipated such actions due to his ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
During his appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Rimingado described the fight against corruption as challenging.
He remarked, “When you take a stand against corruption, it retaliates. While the anti-corruption work is just, the corrupt will fight dirty.”
Rimingado noted that multiple federal agencies have been mobilized against him, revealing that “there’s a lot of maneuvering occurring targeted at me”.
Regarding his recent arrest, he explained, “We discovered that around ₦4 billion from the Kano State Government had been misappropriated by a public officer through various means.”
“We conducted our investigation, seized the implicated assets following legal protocols, and proceeded to court. The law grants us the right under Section 40 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to act as we did.”
“Post-arraignment and detention of the suspect, they employed several strategies to reclaim the seized evidence, which is prohibited by law. Consequently, we had to relocate the evidence to safeguard it until the court adjudicates. This action seems to have provoked them.”
“When they could not delay the court proceedings and recognized they would not prevail, they resorted to using the police to detain me.”
He added that the officers who came to arrest him charged him with abuse of power, misconduct, and trespassing. Rimingado rebutted these claims, asserting that his commission operates under legal authority to prosecute corruption cases.
