The Police Command in Kano State has detained 24 individuals suspected of being thugs.
As stated by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, these arrests were made during clearance operations in areas such as Kofar Mata, Yakasai, Zango, and Zage.
This initiative was prompted by violent confrontations between thugs earlier in December, which resulted in two fatalities among local residents.
The operations, which took place from December 13 to 16, 2024, not only led to these arrests but also facilitated the confiscation of various dangerous weapons.
“Following instructions from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, regarding community-focused policing and strategic security actions, the Command collaborated with security partners, including local leaders, vigilante groups, elders, and business representatives.
“Additionally, public awareness campaigns were held through radio, television, and social media platforms.
“During the period from December 13 to 16, 2024, clearance operations in the Kano Metropolis yielded 24 arrests and the recovery of hazardous weapons. All individuals apprehended will face legal proceedings once investigations are concluded.
“The Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Kano community and reiterated the Command’s dedication to fighting crime and preserving peace in the region.”
