Resignation of Kogi State PDP Financial Secretary
Hon Muhammad Nuhu Tanimu
Hon Muhammad Nuhu Tanimu, who served as the Financial Secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward A of Lokoja, Kogi State, has resigned from his role.
In a letter dated October 14, 2024, Tanimu informed his Ward A party chairman of his decision to step down.
“I want to express my gratitude to all party leaders for the opportunities I’ve had to serve and for their guidance during my tenure. I appreciate it all, and with this message, I officially resign as a member of the PDP effective today,” he stated in his letter.
“Making this choice has been difficult, but it is necessary now. I apologize for any disruption this may cause, thank you very much,” added Tanimu.
Meanwhile, the PDP continues to grapple with internal issues as party governors ended a meeting regarding the role of acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, without a resolution late Monday night.
The meeting began at 5 p.m. and concluded just before 10 p.m., focusing on the ongoing struggles that have led to the suspension of several National Working Committee (NWC) members, including Damagum.
Insiders revealed to Daily Trust that the governors are deeply divided on Damagum’s future, with efforts to find common ground remaining unfruitful.
A spokesperson for one governor, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the majority of the group emphasized the importance of following the party’s constitution, which stipulates that the national chairman position should return to the region of the former chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu from Benue State.
With these internal conflicts ongoing, the governors plan to meet again today in Ondo State, where they will participate in the launch of the PDP’s gubernatorial campaign.
Currently, Damagum, along with National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), remains suspended, while a rival faction claims control of the party.
