Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Saturday’s election, has strongly criticized Bola Tinubu. He declared that Tinubu’s call for healing cannot be achieved without justice for all the alleged violations that occurred during the electoral process. GRV also stated that the party will explore all legal avenues to address the alleged injustices that marred the governorship and assembly polls in the state.
The election was a three-way race between incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdul-Azeez Adediran of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Rhodes-Vivour. At the end of the contest, Sanwo-Olu emerged victorious with 762,134 votes, while Rhodes-Vivour received 312,329 votes and Adediran 62,449 votes.
At a press conference on Wednesday, GRV said his campaign message was based on empathy, love, and good governance without animosity. He then went on to describe his visit to victims of Saturday’s state-sponsored terrorism and violence from Abule-Ado to Surulere, Apapa, and Ikeja. He said he met young men and women with bullets lodged in their bodies, deep cuts, and fractured legs. GRV also announced the launch of the GRV Cares 2023 platform, which encourages victims of violence to upload pictures, hospital bills, and police reports to receive assistance.
GRV continued by saying that Tinubu’s call for healing cannot take place without justice. He accused the APC of using diabolical means and physical violence against Lagosians to create a one-party state. He also said that traditional institutions were reduced to pawns and Oro rites were done during the day. He urged Lagosians to speak out against violence, insecurity, poverty, stagnation, corruption, and underdevelopment. He concluded by stating that they will fight through all legal channels to create their own Lagos.
