The Nigeria Labour Congress Akwa Ibom State chapter has said it will not back out of the nationwide strike until its demands are met.
NLC Chairman in Akwa Ibom, Comrade Sunny James said this while addressing striking workers who converged before the Idongesit Nkanga State Secretariat on Tuesday in compliance with the directive of the national body for an indefinite strike.
He said the action will continue till tomorrow and beyond pending when the federal government responds.
According to him, “workers in the state will ensure total compliance to the national body directive for an indefinite strike until the Federal Government meets with all demands of workers.
“It is an indefinite strike, tomorrow we will all assemble here. After that, we will come down to Akwa Ibom and meet with the Governor.”
He said that the labour union in the state will move around all offices in the state to enforce the nationwide strike as directed.
Meanwhile, banks, public institutions and schools have remained shut in compliance with the national strike action.
At the state secretariat, labour leaders were seen playing drums while workers were dancing to its tunes.
At the federal secretariat, the gate was seen open with a stationed operation quick response vehicle with security operatives on standby.
