“Bad Guy” singer Billie Eilish and her brother/producer/songwriting partner Finneas O’Connell were recently interviewed by Variety about making an impact on the current pop culture scene and being nominated for six GRAMMYs.
The Billie Eilish interview
“I don’t think we ever thought it was gonna be huge,” the singer says of “Bad Guy.”
“I think I started to realize it was a really big song when it was in like parodies on like Late Night when like James Corden was singing it. I was like, ‘Oh, this is like having a cultural moment,’” said O’Connell.
“When we wrote the song, I was like picturing playing it as like the opener at Coachella,” the producer added.
“We were like thinking ahead like, ‘How should we start the show?’ and it wasn’t like ,’What’s gonna be huge?’ It’s literally like, this is gonna be the one that’s the most fun to do. Like pop culture, which is weird,” said Eilish.
“It’s been pretty surreal to have a song that just explodes because I’ve never had that,” continued the singer.
Variety also asked Eilish what it’s like “to receive six GRAMMY nominations?”
“It’s an honor, it is an honor. I grew up watching the GRAMMYs, we all did. I used to judge all the girls’ dresses. That’s all I did. I barely paid attention to the music. It’s very cool to be in the world of being nominated at all,” she responded.
“Was the meat dress a Grammys event?” asked her brother, to which Eilish let out a big “Yiiiiiikes.”
Cue: Lady Gaga’s passionate horde of angry little monsters.
Lady Gaga fans are upset with Billie Eilish and letting her know on Twitter
Gaga sported a dress made of meat at the 2010 VMAs to protest the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
As a result of Eilish’s comment, Gaga’s fans started tweeting #BILLIEEILISHISOVERPARTY. They’re letting Eilish and all of her fans know that “Any tongue that rises against ms gaga shall fall, PERIOD.”
“#BillieEilishisoverparty can not believe she even ATTEMPTED to insult this complete serve……. LITTLE MONSTERS PUT YOUR PAWS UP RAWR XX,” tweeted one Gaga fan.
“Lady Gaga, the second most awarded women alive in music after Beyonce with 304+ awards, has wore a meat dress almost a decade ago. #Vogue loved it, @TheEllenShow most popular tv show loved it, @drake rapper with 181 award winner loved it. Who f*ck is she. #BillieEilishIsOverParty,” wrote another.
Billie Eilish fans are clapping back
Though Gaga infamously has some intense fans, Eilish’s support system is standing up for the 17-year-old singer.
“#BillieEilishIsOverParty y’all are just too much for attacking a 17yo vegan for having an opinion on a meat dress. Do y’all know how many other celebrities were also disgusted/shocked by Gaga wearing a dress made of meat? Really out here comparing Billie’s clothes w meat. ‘Yikes,’” tweeted one Eilish fan.
“What kind of childish bullsh*t is this #BillieEilishisoverparty like what?? Y’all, everyone hates the meat dress it was weird as hell and smelled bad. Grow up,” wrote another.
Neither Eilish nor Gaga have commented on the initial comment nor their fans going to war.
