In a recent statement, SP Bright Edafe from the Delta State Police Command strongly advised against the practice of jungle justice in Nigeria.
Edafe emphasized that if a suspect is physically assaulted on private property, the individuals involved in the assault must take the suspect to a hospital for treatment before surrendering them to the police.
He also cautioned that if a suspect dies as a result of jungle justice, those responsible for the assault will face murder charges in court.
According to Edafe, during a radio program, he encountered resistance from callers who insisted on resorting to violent means before involving the police.
He made it clear that the police will not accept an injured suspect subjected to jungle justice on private premises and stressed that those responsible will be held accountable under the law.
