A man named Harish Sindhi, aged 48, has been apprehended for the abduction and r@pe of a 3-year-old girl in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India.
The child was taken from her sleeping spot beside her mother on a sidewalk near a temple by the suspect on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The girl was discovered the next morning with injuries and bite marks on her body, and a medical examination confirmed the assault.
Sindhi, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime, was arrested on the day following the incident. He is employed at a tea stall in the city and lives separately from his wife and son.
Early Sunday morning, a woman preparing her shop outside the temple found the child wrapped in a red ‘odhani’ (stole) around 6:30 am. CCTV footage captured the accused taking the girl around 2 am while she was asleep with her parents outside the temple, as stated by ACP Anil Kumar.
The girl’s family hails from Madhya Pradesh and lives in a nearby slum. Her mother, who is mentally unwell, often sits outside the temple with her five-year-old son.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot has condemned the incident, expressing deep concern over the r@pe of the 3-year-old girl. He highlighted the rise in crimes, such as shootings, robberies, murders, and r@pes, in Jodhpur, emphasizing the need for immediate action by the government to curb such incidents.
