Lagos State Police’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has detained a man named Ada Joseph for reportedly attempting to sell a vehicle belonging to his previous employer.
According to a statement from the police on Friday, October 11, 2024, the suspect asserted that his motive for the sale was to amass funds for his father’s burial.
“At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, RRS personnel, acting on specific intelligence, apprehended Ada Joseph, 27, in Ikeja, Lagos for attempting to sell his former employer’s car,” the statement indicated.
“Ada had stolen a 2015 Toyota Camry from its parking spot in Osapa, London, Lekki, around 7:00 a.m. By 11:00 a.m., he had reached Alausa Central Business District, ready to sell the car to an interested buyer,” it added.
The statement pointed out that Ada had been dismissed by his employer in June 2024 after a year of employment.
Unbeknownst to the employer, Ada, who worked as the driver, had secretly made a duplicate of the car key.
The suspect admitted to his actions and stated he intended to use the money from the sale for his father’s funeral.
“The car’s owner was notified, and both Ada and the recovered vehicle have been handed over to the State Command for further investigation.”
