Marvel Phase 4: This ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Star Will Return for ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his first appearance at the end of Iron Man. Over the years, Jackson’s character has guided various superheroes as they defend Earth and was the driving force in assembling the Avengers. The last time we saw Fury was in the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which may have been a teaser for his cameo in Captain Marvel 2.

Will Nick Fury be back?

Fury appeared throughout Far From Home as he helped Peter Parker defend the world against what Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) led them to believe were elemental creatures. But as it turns out, Mysterio was the real threat and Fury was an imposter.

In the post-credits scene, we learned that the Skrull named Talos had been impersonating Fury on Earth. This allowed Fury to complete his work on what appeared to be a spaceship somewhere off-planet.

According to We Got This Covered, the scene with the real Fury was actually a teaser for Captain Marvel 2. Fury is apparently working on some sort of defense mechanism to counteract the upcoming Kree invasion.

Marvel has not released any details about Captain Marvel 2, but sources say the film will be all about Carol defending Earth against a Kree invasion. If Fury knows that an invasion is coming, it makes sense that he would prepare for it in any way possible.

Where is Nick Fury?

One of the big questions about his Far From Home cameo is the location of the spaceship. The scene does not offer any clues about where Fury is, though we can say for sure that he is somewhere in outer space.

The ship does not look like anything we have seen to date, which makes it difficult to determine where it is. Some fans are convinced that it is Mar-Vell’s secret lab, while others say that the spaceship is in orbit around Earth.

Unfortunately, nothing official has been confirmed, so we cannot say for sure what is going on in the scene. But Fury definitely looks like he is working on something with the Skrulls, and there is a good chance that his project will pop up in a future film.

In the meantime, it is good to know that Jackson’s character is not leaving the MCU anytime soon. Now that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have bid farewell, it is good that at least one of the original characters is sticking around.

Will ‘Captain Marvel 2’ feature a Defender?

Aside from the Fury angle, there are reports that Captain Marvel 2 will feature more than one superhero teaming up to fight the Kree invasion. This includes rumors that Natalie Portman will appear in the film as the new Thor as well as Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

As if that is not enough, there are new reports that suggest a Defender might also enjoy a cameo, and the most likely candidate is Daredevil (Charlie Cox).

The Daredevil series lasted a few seasons on Netflix before getting canceled this year. But inside sources claim that Cox will be reprising the role in a future MCU movie.

There is no way to tell if that appearance will be in Captain Marvel 2, but he could play a role in the film if the fight comes to Earth. After all, it would be pretty amazing to see Daredevil defending Manhattan against the Kree.

What else do we know about ‘Captain Marvel 2’?

While we wait for more news, Marvel has kept a tight lid on details concerning Captain Marvel 2. We don’t even have the full cast list let alone any storyline information.

Further, the film has not started pre-production yet and is currently in the early development stages. If things go as planned, filming will likely begin in a few years, especially considering all of the projects Marvel has lined up for Phase 4.

Captain Marvel 2 is currently slated to open in theaters in 2023, which gives the studio plenty of time to iron out the details.
