Marvel Studios’ Risky Plan for Eliminating Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Tom Hiddleston has been a staple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since first appearing as Loki in 2011’s Thor. The God of Mischief has fought for the bad guys, and for the good guys. A complex character whose arc spans multiple Thor installments and Avengers mash-ups, Loki will, at last, receive standalone treatment in the form of a Disney+ series.

While Loki will be in the Disney+ show, rumor has is that he may also appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. Yet, you might not want to get too attached to the character or, more accurately, the man behind the character, for he’s in for a few heavy-handed adjustments (according to recent insider reports). Let’s just say, Loki may get cut down a size (in the literal sense of the word) at some point in the Disney+ narrative.

Kid Loki to receive an introduction in the Disney+ show

In the comics, Loki changes his form quite frequently, choosing to stay within other identities for large stretches at a time; however, the MCU has yet to significantly explore this facet of the character’s originally intended identity.

Fans already know, from recent casting announcements, that Sophia Di Martino (Flowers, Yesterday, Black Pond) will be portraying Loki in his female form; however, a soon-to-be-cast youngster may take on childhood Loki — and boast ongoing relevance to the Marvel landscape in a manner Loki will cease to.

We Got This Covered (WGTC) — relying on the same sources who knew Marvel was eyeing Danielle Radcliffe for Moon Knight and that the Inhumans will appear in Ms. Marvel (both confirmed) — reported that the studio is planning to introduce “kid Loki” in the Disney+ show.

Loki will get trapped in his childhood form during ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ and proceed (as such) through the MCU

Loki will also appear in kid-form during Thor: Love and Thunder, yet Hiddleston’s Loki will also reportedly be a shape-shifting presence in the God of Thunder’s final bow. How could we have it any other way?

WGTC’s sources allege that, during the course of Love and Thunder, Loki will get trapped in his childhood form and — remaining as Kid Loki — go on to star in future MCU projects. While this makes sense, as Tom Hiddleston will likely feel done with the character after all this time, it’s a risky move. In short, a very talented childhood actor will have to come to bat.

Tom Hiddleston’s mannerisms, facial expressions, and tone of voice all amalgamate to illustrate an internally conflicted, complex, malicious, yet sometimes heroic, character.

The child will have to portray the developmental years behind the adult personality — the rejection, the confusion, the grappling with a different set of skills, etc. — which will not be easy and, if the child fails to rise to the challenge, fans will be disappointed in the Loki that remains, wishing the man behind the iconic villain never faded into oblivion. However, if this is the direction Marvel plans to go in, which kid should take on the part, and are we talking elementary school or adolescence?
