MTN has committed to restoring all blocked SIM cards of subscribers within the next 24 hours.
In response to directives from the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), MTN Nigeria disconnected phone lines linked to SIMs without National Identification Numbers (NINs), a move that was set to take effect by July 31, 2024.
Customers expressed frustration and anger as they flocked to MTN outlets early on Monday, July 29, 2024, resulting in long queues forming outside the premises.
Many individuals vowed to initiate protests against poor governance in the country, starting at various MTN offices in their respective states.
A recent viral video captured a senior MTN official announcing the imminent unblocking of all barred SIM cards within the next 24 hours.
While the announcement brought relief to many Nigerians, some speculated that it might be a strategic move by the government to quell the nationwide protest scheduled for July 29th.
