My Journey Beyond the Campus: Embracing Life Off the University Grounds

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, recently shared his experiences as a student at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), emphasizing the sacrifices he made for his peers.

He mentioned that he never had the chance to live on the main campus, which enjoyed reliable electricity; instead, he resided in Malabo, enduring mosquito bites.

Akpabio made these comments during a visit from UNICAL’s administration and alumni, who extended an invitation to him for the university’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration.

He regarded the 50th anniversary as an important event and expressed his enthusiasm to be involved, highlighting the necessity of supporting the university. He committed to providing assistance for the anniversary celebrations as needed.

Akpabio reflected, “As Speaker of the Student Parliament, I advocated for student interests. I opted to stay in Malabo, facing mosquitoes, rather than on the main campus where there is consistency in power supply.

“I am grateful to witness the University at its 50th year, and it is a privilege to be invited to celebrate this landmark. I believe this visit will contribute to significant advancements for the university’s future beyond its 50 years.
