The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified recent claims regarding its visa clearance requirements for married women. Allegations suggested that these women needed to present a letter from their husbands to obtain travel clearance.
Social media rumors also indicated that married women would have to provide a photograph of their spouse as part of the application process.
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, stated on Thursday that this requirement has been abolished and is no longer in place.
He explained that the policy was initially introduced due to some concerning incidents in certain countries from which people travel.
Babafemi reassured the public that this requirement has been removed from the current list of necessary documents.
“The complete process for NDLEA’s visa clearance, as stipulated by various countries, is under review, and the must-submit letter from a husband has been eliminated as a required document.
“This requirement was implemented initially due to regrettable incidents in certain source nations. We want to assure the public that it is no longer part of our requirements in the revising process, which will soon be available for everyone to see.”
