Eleven members of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) were eliminated by the Nigerian Army in Jongo Village within the Sambisa Forest.
During a special clearance operation in collaboration with a joint force, the troops tracked down and engaged the suspected terrorists, leading to their death.
In a statement released on Sunday, July 7, 2024, the Army reported that a gun battle ensued between the troops and the terrorists, resulting in the death of the militants while others fled.
“Following the operation, the troops proceeded to exploit the area and discovered various arms including ammunition, rifles, magazines, grenades, and locally made guns,” stated the release.
“The Nigerian Army’s effective operation against terrorism has been highlighted by this successful mission in Sambisa Forest.
“The elimination of ISWAP members and the seizure of their weapons will significantly bolster security and stability in the region, underscoring the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding civilians.”
