The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, suggested that the corps members’ monthly allowance may be raised once discussions regarding the new minimum wage are finalized by the government.
Ahmed cautioned the corp members against sharing camp activities on social media, citing the expulsion of three corpers who violated this rule.
During his address to 2762 Batch B, Stream One corp members at the Ogun State NYSC Orientation Camp, Sagamu, Ahmed acknowledged the academic accomplishments that have granted them the opportunity to serve as corp members.
He emphasized the importance of the rigorous training provided at the camp, aimed at enhancing their leadership abilities to contribute positively to society as responsible Nigerians.
Ahmed reminded the corp members of camp regulations prohibiting online postings of camp activities and emphasized the significance of following safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
He assured the corps members that their allowance would be adjusted following the conclusion of minimum wage negotiations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their well-being.
Impressed by the military skills exhibited by the parade guard, Ahmed encouraged the youth to contemplate a military career and emphasized the need for security consciousness among the corps members.
He advised the corps members to respect the host community’s culture during their primary assignments and perform their duties diligently as representatives of the longstanding NYSC scheme.
Ahmed’s gesture of donating cows for the corps members’ meals was warmly received with cheers from the attendees.
The Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, highlighted the preventive measures implemented at the camp to avert diseases like cholera and emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness.
The corps members participated in various camp activities, with a focus on acquiring skills and entrepreneurship development to equip them as potential job creators.
Nasamu identified key needs of the orientation camp, including additional boreholes, water reservoirs, proper bedding, functional ambulance services, and improved storage facilities.
