People Are Rewatching Old MCU Trailers to Cope With Uncertain Times

With so many people in a bewildered state due to COVID-19, millions stuck in quarantine turn to their favorite pastimes to feel halfway normal. For MCU fans, it may be hard realizing Phase Four will mostly release in 2021, other than Black Widow in November.

In the meantime, fans now focus online to find solace in what Marvel already accomplished. Thanks to YouTube and discussion forums like Reddit, fans can burn off steam talking about or analyzing past MCU movies.

Rewatching MCU movie trailers has now become a new favorite thing to do and prompting new debates on social media. One particular trailer seemed to stand out recently, even if arguments never end on which trailer had the better marketing.

A user on Reddit recently started a thread mentioning how strange it was watching old MCU trailers and finding quotes from them relating to our times. These quotes mostly come from Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Yes, there is a bit of eeriness there in many MCU movies more or less picking up on the vibe of the nation and predicting where we might be. Also, since the end of Endgame takes place in 2023, it might make some ponder if the film predicted our own yet-to-be future.

Whether they predicted right or not, looking back at the things the characters said in Infinity War and Endgame are more than eye-opening. The above Reddit user quoted a couple of things resonating profoundly when related to current COVID-19 medical workers. One from Infinity War really stands out:

There was an idea. To bring together a group of remarkable people. To see if we could become something more. So that when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could.”

What about quotes from the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ trailer?

While some might argue the above trailer quote can relate to anything, the fact people are finding comfort in it shows the value of MCU films. After the likes of Martin Scorsese attacked MCU movies last year as not being cinema, there might be a turnaround opinion when connecting the films to where we are.

There is one quote from the Endgame trailer really making an impact now. The “Whatever it takes” line is packing a punch in a time when fighting COVID19 becomes a worldwide effort. For our prized medical professionals, they no doubt find this relatable, while outsiders equate the line to real heroes in our midst.

Marvel should find comfort knowing many people are turning to the old trailers to find peace and taking all the MCU messages to heart about what really makes a hero. When looking back, the Avengers really did do whatever it took to beat a major world threat (namely Thanos) and use ingenuity/technology to make things better again.

Whether others will get this message is unknown since not many people commented on the above Reddit thread. However, other threads popped up showcasing how other MCU trailers have new reassessments several years later.

Which MCU trailers are being looked at the most again?

Consensus on which MCU trailer was the most successful in building hype for the movie is still a subjective practice. Someone on Reddit did say recently Captain America: Civil War was one of the best trailers ever produced.

There is truth to this, right on down to how it was edited and the music utilized. Others think Infinity War was the best ever trailer, especially because fans went bonkers when the Infinity Gauntlet made its first appearance.

Now with the above quote becoming so connected to America’s heroes fighting COVID19, it might move Infinity War to the top as the most forward-thinking and emotionally connected MCU movie. However, not without likely continued arguments when things go back to normal.

Before then, other forgotten MCU extracts will likely be dug up to remind how much of a real purpose they had after all.
