A private meeting took place at Malami’s office as discussions continue to create a diverse political coalition ahead of the forthcoming 2027 elections.

Peter Obi, the previous presidential candidate from the Labour Party, recently had an audience with Abubakar Malami, who previously held the position of Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The discussion occurred on Tuesday in Abuja.

This private meeting, hosted at Malami’s location, is part of ongoing efforts to establish a comprehensive political coalition as the 2027 general elections approach.

Obi’s encounter with Malami came shortly after meeting with the former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, just a day prior at his residence in Asokoro.

Both Malami and Shekarau are now identified among significant political figures associated with the prospective coalition, which reportedly also includes notable names such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The initiative for coalition-building has gained traction following the results of the 2023 presidential election, where Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious with 8.8 million votes. Obi and Atiku finished third and second, respectively, which diluted the opposition votes and facilitated the APC’s success.

In response, observers and advocacy groups have ramped up their calls for a consolidated opposition front to effectively contest the ruling party in the upcoming 2027 elections.
