Gov Bala Mohammed
The Presidency has responded to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s remarks about President Bola Tinubu not listening to the populace.
Recently, Mohammed spoke with Sheikh Sani Jingir, the National Chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah, regarding national issues. Jingir had previously supported the Muslim-Muslim Ticket that aided Tinubu’s rise to presidency in May 2023.
“It’s clear that our relationship with Tinubu is strained due to the suffering of our communities. Even we, as governors, are feeling the pressure. He doesn’t listen to us amid his policies,” Mohammed expressed during his conversation with Jingir.
He highlighted that northern regions have felt the brunt of Tinubu’s policies, emphasizing concerns that proposed tax reforms would exacerbate the existing hardships.
In response, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, labeled the governor’s remarks as “irresponsible politics” in a statement issued on Friday, Jan. 10.
“Governor Bala should focus on governing rather than trying to use President Tinubu’s name to enhance his declining reputation. His approach resembles irresponsible politics.
Rather, he ought to concentrate on addressing the pressing challenges within his state. True ambition requires resilience,” stated the Presidency.
“President Tinubu is dedicated to revitalizing the economy, committed to fulfilling his promises during his four-year term.”
“Nigerians are starting to recognize the genuine effects of reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, and positive changes will continue to emerge in the lives of citizens in the upcoming weeks and months.”
Dare indicated that the Tinubu administration is concentrating on developmental issues aimed at enhancing the well-being of Nigerians.
“The government is focused on fostering collaboration with state entities and other vital stakeholders on issues impacting the lives of citizens,” the statement added.
The Presidency denied Mohammed’s assertions, claiming, “President Tinubu is an attentive leader who values state institutions.”
Regarding the Tax Reform Bills, they encouraged individuals and groups with concerns to engage with the legislative process.
“How are the people of his state, who rank among the poorest in Nigeria, faring under his governance?” the statement questioned.
“What improvements has he made in the quality of life of his people using the increased resources at his disposal as Governor?”
The statement concluded that, while Tinubu has responsibilities to all Nigerians, “Governor Bala has an even greater obligation to his constituents.” Consequently, “Playing irresponsible politics will not absolve him of his commitments to the impoverished populace of Bauchi State.”
