Professor Monday Lewis Igbafen
Professor Monday Lewis Igbafen, who serves as the Zonal Coordinator for the Benin Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), managed to flee from his captors less than a day after his abduction.
This incident occurred when he was entering his residence in Ekpoma and was reportedly blindfolded and transported to a forest area within Esan South East Local Government.
A coworker, wishing to remain unnamed, informed Dailypost that Professor Igbafen escaped from his captors on Sunday evening.
According to the source, “Prof Igbafen was taken at gunpoint around 10:00 pm on Saturday night in Ekpoma, Esan West LGA.”
“As he arrived home, armed men confronted him and forced him into his ash-colored Toyota Highlander, vehicle registration ABJ 180 JQ.”
Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, verified that the lecturer successfully escaped from his kidnappers.
“The police are aware of the situation. Officers from the Ekpoma Division exerted pressure on the kidnappers, resulting in the victim’s escape,” Yamu stated.
“We’re currently tracking down the suspects to ensure they face justice,” he added.
