The House of Representatives has introduced a bill for the creation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal University of Nigerian Languages, which has successfully completed its first reading.
If approved, this institution will expand the current higher education landscape.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, along with eight co-sponsors, is leading this initiative aimed at enhancing the study of Nigerian languages.
The next steps involve a second reading, expected soon, which will include a public hearing to solicit feedback from various stakeholders.
The proposed university’s objectives, as outlined in Section II, Part I of the bill, encompass promoting educational advancement and ensuring accessibility to higher education in Nigeria’s languages and cultures for all individuals, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Moreover, the institution aims to establish academic programs leading to various qualifications, emphasizing practical skills in Nigerian languages and cultures to support the nation’s growth.
Once established, the university is also anticipated to play a significant role in optimizing Nigeria’s resources through advanced training, research, and innovation.
