Senator Kashim Shettima recounted an interesting encounter with renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Adichie, at the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) conference in 2022.
His appearance at the event, wearing sneakers with his suit, caused quite a stir on social media and even led to a viral “challenge.”
Reflecting on the episode in 2024, Shettima expressed his amusement at being welcomed back, given the attention his sneakers brought him previously.
He shared that he drew significant notice, to the extent that Chimamanda herself started snapping photos of him.
“I became somewhat of a sensation. I vividly recall Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie capturing my ‘Mungo Park suit’ in photographs during our summons,” he chuckled.
In a light-hearted tone, he mentioned his relief at the realization that wearing sneakers is not a mandatory dress code for NBA gatherings, indicating his pleasure at returning despite his unconventional fashion statement.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, Shettima acknowledged the NBA’s rich history in promoting democratic ideals and upholding legal principles.
He lauded the organization’s steadfast commitment to these values, essential for the smooth functioning of a democracy.
The vice president reaffirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law, respecting the principles of democracy, and honoring the separation of powers.
