IGP, Kayode Egbetokun
Contrary to allegations, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun dismissed claims of excessive force by police, military, and security agencies against #EndBadGovernance demonstrators.
During a security meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the IGP stated that security personnel handled the protests without resorting to live ammunition.
Addressing the press, IGP Egbetokun highlighted that security forces encountered attacks while trying to ensure order during the protests.
He stressed that both the military and police followed safety protocols for the well-being of demonstrators and officers alike.
He clarified saying;
“The police and the military, as well as all security agencies involved, did not employ excessive force. Rather, security agents were assaulted during the protests. Based on our data, there were no reported shootings by the police.
“There was no use of live ammunition by the police or military in handling these protests. We have had instances where our officers sustained injuries and are in critical condition.
“I refute these claims as false information and incorrect accusations. There was no excessive force used. Despite the escalation of violence, we did not deploy our full capacity. We refrained from using water cannons and rubber bullets. Teargas was the only method employed in managing these protests.”
