Selena Gomez’s 2019 Year In Review: Which Celebrities Did She Call Out?

Gather ’round, because it’s finally the year of Selena Gomez. The former Disney Channel star has been famous since she was a child, but the past few years have been difficult ones for her. From her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber to various health issues, the singer-songwriter hasn’t put out an album in a while.

But all of that changes in 2020. And to celebrate the year that she completed her latest album (Rare, due out Jan. 10), Gomez shared dozens of photos and clips from 2019 on her Instagram Story. Here’s a look at some of her greatest moments, as well as the celebrities she mentioned along the way.

February: A sneak peek of Rare

What’s that? Did we just get a quick two-second preview of a new Gomez track? One of the first notable clips in Gomez’s year-in-review story was from Feb. 26, 2019.

The text reads, “making of.. track 8.” She’s already revealed the tracklisting for Rare, and No. 8 is “Let Me Get Me.” Yes, we know we have a few days left to wait, but this ultra-brief sneak peek was very necessary.

March: The cutest new friend

The friendship all pop music stans are obsessed with is that of Gomez and Taylor Swift. They were both very busy this year and didn’t get to spend as much time together as they might have like.

However, we do know that Gomez got to meet Swift’s new cat, Benjamin Button, on March 12, as she shared a photo of herself holding the kitten while wearing a tie-dye sweatshirt. The singer tagged her Artist of the Decade bestie in the image.

August: A concert to remember

Musicians don’t just make music. They also enjoy the work of other artists. Case in point: Gomez attended the concert of one of the most prominent country artists of the moment, Kacey Musgraves.

The pop star shared a photo from Musgraves’ Aug. 25, 2019 concert in Los Angeles, CA, writing, “One of the best days of the year.” We love to see the mutual artist appreciation.

September: A surprising mash-up

Like the rest of us, many celebrities are obsessed with reality TV. For Gomez, the show she loves the most is Shark Tank, in which ordinary people pitch their business ideas to industry giants. After getting a “Happy Birthday” wish from Mark Cuban on her 27th birthday in July 2019, the singer was ecstatic.

But there was more to come. Gomez then went to the set of the ABC reality series and became “an honorary Shark” in September. The artist called the event her “dream come true.”

October: The beginning of ‘Rare’

It’s no doubt been a long time since Gomez topped the charts. Taking time off was something she was glad she was able to do, naturally, given all of her health issues. However, it must feel incredible to back doing what she loves, and the artist has been rewarded for her hard work.

Dropping “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look At Her Now” back-to-back in October was a powerful move. Gomez celebrated this with a cake on Oct. 24, 2019, which read “Congrats! #1 and #2 Chart Topper!” Now, all we need to do is wait for Rare, and get ready for another year of incredible Gomez moments.
