Seven Individuals Charged in Murder Case of Kwara Student
On February 3, seven individuals appeared in front of a High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, facing charges related to the murder of Awesu Mojisola, who was a final year student at the Kwara State College of Health Technology in Offa Local Government Area.
The victim was reportedly enticed to Ilorin by Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, where she was subsequently killed and her body discarded at a site in the Warah community between August 8 and 9, 2024.
Awesu Mojisola had completed her studies just three weeks prior to her tragic death.
The accused individuals include Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, identified as the main suspects, along with Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, Happiness’s parents. Additionally, three hotel employees—Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus—are involved, as they were connected to the location where the murder allegedly took place.
All seven suspects face six charges, including conspiracy, murder, evidence tampering, and illegal disposal of a body.
According to the prosecution, the group conspired to take Awesu Mojisola’s life on August 9, 2024. These offenses violate sections of the Penal Code and the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law 2018.
During the court session, Kwara State’s Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Ayoola Akande, represented the prosecution, assisted by five other attorneys, while Barristers F.A Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko represented the parents and hotel workers.
The hearing, however, could not proceed as no legal representation was available for the main suspects, Happiness and Timileyin. As a result, Justice Adebayo Yusuf ordered their detention in a correctional facility and rescheduled the case for February 24, 2025, for a complete arraignment of all defendants.
Happiness Adebayo and her parents are charged with conspiracy and evidence destruction under the Penal Code of Kwara State 2006, while Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus face charges for conspiring to dispose of Mojisola’s body illegally, in accordance with the 2018 Human Parts Law in Kwara State.
