How have the mighty falling or the weak remained weaker? That is the question for any Nigerian who see their country as no good or those who still harbor some hope of a great Nation or the so called ”Giant of Africa”.  Just when i thought things can’t get any worst in Nigeria, then here comes Jamb, announcing that the average mark to enter into a Nigerian institutions is 120. A fall from 200, to 180 and now 120. Although rights are still given to Universities to determine their cut off mark but still this is a national disgrace.

Some might celebrate this, meaning they can afford to go to the University and acquire higher education. However, is obvious that our falling educational system has resulted to citizens, young students not been equipped enough to pass their exams.  The Nigerian educational system is at it lowest level, lack of qualified teachers in public schools, children learning under harsh weather, and even the so called private schools been so expensive for the common, middle class or poor families to sent their children to adequate schools.

let not talk about our universities lack of practical equipment, focusing on theories rather practical, examination malpractice, strikes, maltreatment of university staffs both academic and non-academic. Lack of laboratories, equipment and instruments for modern research and developments. Our Universities has become breathing ground for cultism, prostitution, unwanted pregnancies, rape, abuse as lectures forces female students to sleep with them for grades. To cut the long story short on this point, most Nigerian students and Universities in general are not equipped to tackle the complex national and global issues facing the world in the 21st century.

Any Nigerian with great grades, pioneers in various field both home and abroad is by share heard work and determination as mostly individual effort and gift than the good of Nigerian educational system. As Nigerians are know to be one of the most hard working group of people in the world.

However, our educational system is so poor and is about to be made poor by Jamb announcement, that means future generations of Nigerians don’t need to work heard or effort does not have to be made to put adequate resources to our schools because everybody who can afford, cheat  and bribe is way can go to university. I am not the bringer or broadcaster of doom but little or no effect are made by our leaders to improve Nigerian citizens educational standard to compete at the highest stage of the world. We have some of the world smartest minds, but they are wasted in the shores of Nigeria. Not even as if after finish University, one has meaningful employment, that is a discussion for another my friends.
