Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has recently returned to the country after attending the first International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Resources (SIREXE Expo) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Although there was no formal announcement regarding his arrival, it is reported that he landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday evening.
During the summit, Shettima emphasized the need for improved governance, transparency, and cooperation among African leaders and industry stakeholders to effectively utilize the continent’s natural resources for sustainable development.
He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to promoting a transparent and inclusive extractive sector, underpinned by partnerships at the regional level and the development of local expertise.
The summit, which focused on “Policies and Strategies for the Sustainable Development of the Extractive and Energy Industries,” gathered leaders from various African nations to explore innovative approaches to resource management and energy security.
It’s notable that Shettima departed Abuja for the event on Wednesday morning.
Upon his arrival at Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, he was welcomed by several Ivorian officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Diaspora, Mr. Kacou Houadja Léon Adom, and the Minister of Mines, Oil and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly.
Additional dignitaries welcoming Vice President Shettima included Mrs. Itam A. Icha from the Nigerian Embassy, Mr. Abubakar L. Alhaji, and Mrs. Assumpta M. Nansoh.
