The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, has directed law enforcement to promptly release all young individuals detained during the recent protests throughout the state.

This directive was made by the Speaker on Tuesday during an urgent session that was called in light of rising public outcry concerning the arrest of those who participated in demonstrations against the ongoing violence in various regions of the state.

While addressing the Assembly, Speaker Dajoh reiterated the legislature’s dedication to upholding democratic values and the constitutional rights of the citizens of Benue.

“Engaging in peaceful protest is a right guaranteed by the constitution,” he asserted. “No individual should face repercussions for voicing their opinions in a democratic environment.”

The Speaker’s remarks were met with appreciation from fellow lawmakers and commended by human rights advocates as a courageous defense of civil liberties.

Dajoh also urged security forces to honor the rights of peaceful protestors and emphasized the importance of handling future public interactions with professionalism and restraint.

The Assembly committed to investigating the details surrounding the arrests and engaging with the appropriate authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
