Man Detained Over Alleged Assassination Plot
A 35-year-old individual named Susaine Morgan is currently detained following a decision by a Magistrate Court in Yenagoa. He faces charges related to an alleged attempt on the life of Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
This incident reportedly took place in Ekeremor town, located in Bayelsa State’s Ekeremor Local Government Area.
The Magistrate ordered Morgan’s remand at the Correctional Service Centre in Okaka for 30 days. This measure allows the police to continue their investigation and seek out six other individuals believed to be involved and still at large.
The legal case, registered under reference number YMC/51C/2025, lists charges against Morgan including conspiracy, armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, and the illegal possession of firearms.
Details from the charges indicate that Morgan was apprehended on January 1, 2025, at the minister’s residence, alongside two AK-47 rifles, accused of plotting serious offenses such as conspiracy and armed robbery.
According to security reports, the group of assailants blended into the crowd visiting the minister during the holiday season, which aided them in gaining access to his property. However, their scheme was thwarted when security forces received warnings about potentially hazardous individuals among the guests.
A police source elaborated that security personnel had to intervene, instructing the crowd to lie down, which led to Morgan’s capture after he was found with a bag full of weapons. The other culprits managed to escape unnoticed by mingling with the mass of visitors.
Following their flight, these suspects allegedly created disturbances in the area, which included a shooting incident and a robbery at a local filling station where they stole ₦400,000.
In addition, they compromised the town’s waterfront, taking a speedboat to aid their getaway. Reports indicate that Morgan has provided significant information about the other suspects, and authorities are actively pursuing their apprehension.
