In Zamfara State, authorities from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested a man named Mohammed Dauda Islmail for possessing counterfeit currency amounting to $7,000.
During a press conference at the Command Headquarters in Gusau, Commandant Sani Mustapha shared details of the case, stating that on December 12, 2024, a 33-year-old man named Alkasim Kabir reported the theft of his Mercedes-Benz C300 and two smartphones—a Samsung Galaxy and an iPhone 12.
The Commandant noted that the suspects traveled from Kano State to Zamfara via the Dayi-Malumfashi-Funtua road.
“After receiving intelligence and an online tip, we were able to locate and arrest the suspect in Gusau on December 15, 2024, around 11:30 a.m. at a restaurant near Masjid Umar Bin Khattab on Sokoto Bypass Road,” he stated.
According to Sani Mustapha, the suspect admitted to obtaining the stolen items under false pretenses. He claimed to have left the victim’s home to get gas but instead fled with the items. Tracking efforts revealed that the stolen iPhone 12 is in Lokoja, Kogi State, and arrangements are being made to recover it, as the buyer has agreed to return it.
The Commandant assured that investigations are ongoing, and once completed, the suspect will face legal proceedings.
In a conversation with reporters, Mohammed Dauda expressed that he had attempted to sell the stolen car and phones but was unable to do so because he lacked the necessary documentation for the vehicle.
