Iorhee Saanmoyol Paul is grateful for his life after enduring the loss of both hands.

The first-year student at Taraba State Polytechnic underwent amputation following an accident where he was electrocuted while raising a flag for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This unfortunate event took place on May 21, 2025, in Jalingo, near the school’s entrance along Roadblock to ATC Road.

The incident occurred when the flagpole’s metal handle made contact with a high-voltage power line, resulting in a dangerous electric shock.

Paul was swiftly transported to Gilead Hospital in Jalingo for urgent care before being transferred to the National Orthopedic Hospital at the Taraba State Specialist Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

After a month of critical care, doctors conducted a double amputation on June 19, 2025, in an effort to save his life.

The state government has taken responsibility for covering his medical costs so far.

Iliya Kefas, the Coordinator of Operation Keep Taraba Clean, expressed optimism for Paul’s recovery and urged the government to provide prosthetic devices and vocational training opportunities.

Paul, who is still receiving medical attention, is deeply thankful for the assistance he has received but has requested further help to regain his autonomy.

“I am thankful to be alive, yet I wasn’t able to pursue my ambitions. Upon awakening in the hospital, I questioned, ‘Why am I still here?’ However, the scripture reminds us that life is invaluable. So, I owe my gratitude to God,” he stated.

He further mentioned, “While my classmates are taking their first-semester exams, I find myself in this situation. That’s a testament to God’s will.”
