Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Student
A 22-year-old educator, known as Prosper, from the Blessed Peace School in Egbeda, Lagos, has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old male student.
Reports indicate that the teacher lured the boy to a secluded area of the school under false pretenses, instructing him to act like a girl and remove his trousers.
On October 18, 2024, Prosper allegedly convinced the child that he would be taken to a competition related to spelling and art, promising substantial rewards and dreams of traveling abroad.
One observer recounted, “The teacher told the child he could participate in a lucrative art contest, which encouraged him to comply with the request.”
“He brought the boy to a classroom, told him to act like a girl, then asked him to pull down his trousers and shut his eyes before assaulting him, assuring him of his success in the competition if he kept quiet about it.”
Authorities learned of the incident when another student, aged 11, expressed fear about attending school, citing threats from a teacher. His concerned parents sparked further inquiries, leading to an investigation among other students.
Evidence emerged that Prosper had shown favoritism towards one boy, frequently gifting him with items and special treatment. Eventually, the initial victim revealed that he was misled with promises of a competition and financial reward.
The suspect was detained on November 13, 2024, while allegedly attempting to target another student.
After his arrest, the police transferred Prosper to the Police Gender Unit for further action. Mrs. Ololade Ajayi, the founder of DOHS Cares Foundation, voiced her worries about potential delays in prosecuting the case.
“Since it was handed over to the Gender Unit, there have been no advancements toward court proceedings. I visited last Wednesday to inquire about the case and was told they were still investigating.”
“I offered to assist the family with transportation to the scene due to their financial issues, but subsequent attempts to reach them yielded no results.”
Chief Superintendent of Police Gladys Faniyi confirmed that the case is under the proceedings of the Police Gender Unit.
“I have referred this matter to the Gender Department. For any inquiries, please reach out to them directly,” Faniyi stated.
