The Batman director Matt Reeves shared three photos on social media on March 4 that reveal the Batmobile in his new film. Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne in the latest reboot of the caped crusader. At one time, The Batman was supposed to follow Ben Affleck’s Batman and Affleck was to direct. With Affleck retired from DC movies, Reeves took over and cast Pattinson as an early Bruce Wayne on his vigilante crusade.
Images and video have trickled out from The Batman production. Reeves himself released a screen test of Pattinson in the batsuit. Footage from a Glasgow shoot leaked in Feb. which featured a stuntman on a motorcycle. Another leak revealed Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. Reeves provided the first look at Batman’s famous car. The Batman opens June 25, 2021.
The Batmobile drives ‘The Batman’ hype further
Reeves shared three pics that show three different angles on the Batmobile. First, from overhead you see Batman standing beside the car on the streets of Gotham City, headlights flaring. Then, from the side you see the Batmobile obstructing Batman. Finally, from behind you get a look at some of the horsepower propelling the Batmobile.
The Hollywood Reporter compared The Batman’s Batmobile to the “stripped-down sports car-like designs that appeared in the comic books throughout the 1970s and ’80s.” They also commented that this batmobile could more easily blend in than, say Tim Burton’s or even Christopher Nolan’s military grade Tumbler.
“The more grandiose visuals were traded in for something that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the real world, if it wasn’t for the bright blue and black paint job that inevitably featured bat iconography on the hood for easy identification,” Aaron Couch and Graeme McMillan wrote in THR.
Batfans approve ‘The Baman’ take on the Batmobile
Batman fans have lived through a variety of Batmobiles, from Adam West’s TV budgeted kitschy Batmobile to the gaudy ‘90s armored cars. The Dark Knight trilogy showed Christian Bale requisition military grade vehicles, and Zack Snyder’s Batman was equipped to do battle with Superman himself.
Now, author Seth Grahame-Smith thinks Batman can give Vin Diesel a run for his money.
This user agrees with Grahame-Smith’s assessment but to her, it’s not a good comparison. “That’s so ugly,” she wrote. “This is not fast and furious.” This user joked, “Vin Diesel is on his way to steal it right now.”
This user wrote, “Looks amazing Matt” and got a reply from Reeves.
This user was a bit melodramatic but seems sincere, writing, “I thought life had no meaning… Until I saw this tweet.”
This user appreciates the lean design. “So glad to finally have a Batmobile that’s not a tank for once,” he wrote. This user calls it “the best batsuit and best batmobile I don’t care what you guys say.”
Comicbook.com approves.
This user doesn’t quite know what to make of this Batmobile, but he’s into it. “Literally everything I’ve seen about the design of this movie is so confusing so far and I’m kind of excited by that,” he wrote.
Not everyone is happy
Of course, you can’t please everybody all the time and some Batfans replied directly to Reeves to express their disappointment. This user prefers the Snyder car, writing, “Sigh… nothing will ever live up to this again huh” with a picture of Affleck and his batmobile.
This user went so far as to say, “You’re not Zack!” and this one calls it a “serious downgrade.”
This user thinks The Batman Batmobile looks like it belongs in the CW Arrowverse, writing, “CW called they want their Batman and car back.” This user criticized, “Looks like mustang not a batmobile.”
