Views on DNA Testing in Nigerian Culture
A Nigerian woman, Ogochukwu Juliet Victory, shared her perspective on DNA testing within her cultural framework.
She emphasized that DNA testing is absent in her culture, asserting that any child born to a married woman is considered the child of her husband.
This statement came in response to a Facebook discussion led by Chioma Onwuesi, who advocated for mandatory DNA testing in hospitals after her friend learned he was not the biological father of his three kids.
Another participant, Uchenna Nneka Nwigwe, supported this view, noting that in her village, children born to a wife are attributed to the man who paid her bride price, and described DNA testing as irrelevant.
