Marrying someone on TV and having your relationship dissected for public entertainment isn’t a walk in the park, to say the least. Amber Pike and Matt Barnett dealt with this difficulty firsthand, revealing at the Love is Blind reunion that they almost divorced post-filming. “I know there was one point where we almost broke because we had such expectations out of what we wanted out of a husband and wife,” Amber explained to the show’s hosts, Nick and Vanessa Lachey (via Harper’s Bazaar). “And we knew we were married and we knew we were in love, but also, we were still learning each other.” These differences led to Amber almost hiring a “divorce lawyer.” Yikes.
Barnett, who called himself a “stubborn a**hole,” explained how it took one simple action to make things better. “We stopped trying to force what we wanted on each other,” he said. “Once that happened, it’s just nothing but really good things since then.”
Speaking of good things, the two enjoyed a trip to Italy before the show began airing. Although their future travel plans are “on hold” due to the coronavirus, as Amber revealed on Instagram, she gushed that being with Barnett will “always be an adventure.” Aww.
