Hagen Mills, who was 29 when he died, was born in Kentucky and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, according to Variety. In 2011, he had some luck with short films and by 2013, he was cast in the film Bonnie & Clyde: Justified. Mills played the character Buck Barrow, an older brother to protagonist Clyde Barrow, and an active member of the Barrow Gang, per Variety.
Mills’ acting success continued when he played the character Lucky in the episode “Renoir,” which was the first episode in the black comedy series Baskets, per Variety. The show also stars Zach Galifianakis.
Later in 2016, Mills landed a role in an episode of Swedish Dicks, according to IMDb. His most recent work was in the independent horror film, Starlight, which is due to debut on August 4, 2020, according to Variety.
While Mills had some acting success, he also had trouble with the law. According to New York Daily News, he had a history of felony arrests. A major one occurred on March 30, when Mills “was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, rape, sodomy, adult kidnapping and child endangerment,” per the outlet. Later, in April, Mills was “slapped with more offenses” for the “felony possession of methamphetamine and trafficking anabolic steroids.”
According to People, police are unclear what Mills’ motive was in the murder-suicide attempt.
