Protesters in the Karu region of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were dispersed by security personnel on Monday, August 5, amidst an ongoing demonstration against hunger.
The group demonstrating against governmental mismanagement in the nation had gathered when security forces intervened and apprehended three individuals.
A protester, Yahaya Abdullahi, recounted to Punch that security forces used teargas against them.
He stated, “Our group was assembling when the police and other security forces began using tear gas and apprehended some of our members, as of now, we are aware of three individuals who have been detained.”
This incident occurred shortly after the arrest of Micheal Lenin, a key figure in the #Endbadgovernance protests in Abuja, by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Reports indicate that Lenin was arrested at 2 am on Monday at his residence in the Apo area of the capital by DSS operatives.
