A tragic incident occurred on Friday in the Mile Six district of Jalingo, Taraba State, when a tipper truck, filled with sand, lost control and collided with a group of traders and pedestrians. Sadly, there are fears that two people may have lost their lives, with numerous others injured.
Witnesses indicated that the calamity began when one of the vehicle’s tires burst while it was traveling at speed, leading to the driver losing control.
The truck then veered off the road and crashed into pedestrians on the side, creating an atmosphere of fear and disorder in the vicinity.
“It was terrifying. People were screaming and fleeing. Some individuals got trapped beneath the truck. Those of us close by quickly rushed to assist the victims,” one observer shared.
Friends and bystanders swiftly transported the injured to a nearby hospital while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
Local residents detained the driver of the truck and turned him over to law enforcement for further inquiry.
