The body of Favour Okenyi, a first-year female student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State, who had been reported missing, has been found lifeless.
Favour was studying in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at the university.
She was last seen on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, after attending a chemistry practical class.
Her decomposing remains were discovered in a drainage behind the Eni-Njoku male hostel, close to the Akanu Ibiam Stadium, on the evening of Friday, July 5.
Fellow students were the ones who came across Favour’s body.
University spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the distressing incident, expressing the institution’s shock at the finding.
In an announcement on Sunday, July 7, Omeaku mentioned that the university was working with security agencies and the deceased student’s family to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
He emphasized that uncovering the details of Favour’s demise would aid in preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future at the university.
“The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student,” he stated.
“We urge anyone with relevant information that could assist in the investigation to contact the university administration.”
