A tragic event unfolded as Abdulssamad Musa, a 300-level student at Federal University of Kashere, was fatally stabbed by a fellow student during a quarrel over a football match.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, expressing dismay over the violent turn of events. The suspect absconded following the altercation on the night of Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Abdullahi emphasized that football should foster unity, not result in fatalities.
Regrettably, Musa, aged 18, succumbed to his injuries as bystanders fled the scene instead of administering aid or seeking urgent medical attention. The tragic incident escalated from a dispute between students residing in the same vicinity to a physical altercation, culminating in the fatal stabbing of Musa, a criminology student at the university.
Abdullahi highlighted the negligence of the neighbors in providing assistance to Musa during the critical period, as they abandoned him in his dire need.
The prime suspect managed to escape, but law enforcement authorities are vigorously pursuing his apprehension to face justice. The suspect, who was on Industrial Attachment Training and returned to sit for supplementary exams, was harbored by his peers in the neighboring hostel upon his arrival.
Abdullahi urged the public to shun violence and avoid disputes that may escalate into physical confrontations. Emphasizing the role of football in promoting peace, he underscored the tragic consequences that ensued after the argument post-football match viewing.
