A 50-year-old mother, Laura Fernanda Leguizamón, has been allegedly involved in the tragic killing of her family and subsequently left a disturbing letter before ending her own life.
The grim discovery of four bodies, each with numerous stab wounds, was made by a housekeeper on Wednesday, May 21, inside the family’s apartment.
The housekeeper first found 12-year-old Ivo deceased in the living room, surrounded by blood, followed by the discovery of his brother in a bedroom, as reported by local outlets. Both Laura and her husband were said to have been found in their master bedroom.
Upon reporting the horrific scene to emergency services, an ambulance was dispatched and confirmed the fatalities. Authorities suspect that the father may have been attacked while he was asleep.
The mother was discovered with a lethal injury, but there were no indications of a struggle. Law enforcement noted that both children had wounds on their backs and signs of defensive injuries.
A disturbing letter, purportedly authored by Leguizamón, was located in the kitchen, though only fragments could be read due to the condition of the writing, according to infobae.
The letter included the words: “Everything was wrong; it was too much. I love you. Everything was wrong. Very twisted.”
Nonetheless, authorities have not officially confirmed the author of the letter.
Sources close to the investigation indicated that: “The note found in the kitchen appeared to be written by someone not of sound mind.”
Leguizamón’s sister informed investigators that she had been receiving mental health treatment at the time. The housekeeper also reported that Leguizamón had changed significantly in recent weeks, including asking her to leave early and becoming agitated over minor activities like using a vacuum cleaner. Police have suggested she may have stopped her medication.
Reports indicate that one of the sons may have tried to escape the apartment but was unsuccessful before he was killed.
The Justice Department of Argentina is treating the case as a domestic incident, given the absence of forced entry or theft.
Leguizamón had previously shared glimpses of her family life on social media, highlighting a trip to Uruguay for Bernardo’s birthday last January, and an excursion to the Dominican Republic for her 50th birthday celebration the previous October.
In light of the tragic events, an interview from 2017 featuring the husband discussing family has resurfaced.
He had expressed: “I have a wonderful and loving wife; I am grateful to life for bringing her to me. I also have two beautiful children.”
