The film was co-written by Josh Safdie and Ben Safdie along with frequent writing collaborator Ronald Bronstein. The dramedy is being produced by Sebastian Bear-McClard and Oscar Boyson of Elara Pictures together with Scott Rudin and Eli Bush through Scott Rudin Productions. Award winning director Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed, Hugo) and Emma Tillinger Koskoff are executive producing.

After premiering at the Telluride Film Festival last August and the Toronto International Film Festival in September, the film hit theaters in the US on December 13 to rave reviews from critics for its tension-fueled story and Sandler’s performance, which many hailed as the best of his career. While the film premiered in theaters in the US, becoming the highest-grossing domestic film for A24 with over $50 million, it was released worldwide exclusively on Netflix in January.
