Bisi Akande, a former governor of Osun State, suggested that the 2020 protests against police brutality, specifically targeting the Special Anti-Robbery Squads (SARS), were designed to undermine President Bola Tinubu.
During a podcast, Akande claimed that the protests were a strategic move initiated by the Obidients from abroad, focusing on ending Tinubu’s influence in Nigeria.
In 2020, large crowds across Nigeria took to the streets for several days, demanding reforms in the police force and protesting against the violent actions of SARS.
“#EndSARS was intended to culminate in the end of Tinubu. It was deliberately orchestrated by those associated with the Obidients. They were aware of the implications of their actions. The plan was conceived overseas,” Akande alleged.
He continued, “The Obidients received financial backing from America to execute the protests. They intended to leverage the movement to form a party, which ultimately did not materialize.”
When probed further about the connection between the Obidients and Peter Obi, he responded:
“Perhaps it relates to Obi’s party or movement, but ultimately, the Obidients were the architects of the EndSARS protests, which were very meticulously arranged with significant funding from abroad.”
When asked why Tinubu did not anticipate the protests as a threat, Akande explained that sometimes, ambushes go undetected.
