Activist and ex-presidential candidate in Nigeria, Omoyele Sowore, has reaffirmed plans for a nationwide protest against hunger on October 1.

In a recent update via X on September 30, he expressed that despite government opposition and police warnings, the protest will take place as scheduled.

“NO GOING BACK! #FearlessInOctober,” he stated.

Sowore announced that the main protest will convene at Eagles Square in Abuja.

“Protests will occur throughout Nigeria as the hunger, insecurity, and suffering inflicted by the current government are widespread. I must reiterate that these protests will be peaceful, as they have always been. In the previous protests, despite our peaceful stance, we faced violence and aggression from the authorities. However, we will not be intimidated; our greatest strength is the truth,” he noted.

“Since our last protest two months ago, fuel prices have surged nearly N300 per litre. The naira’s value continues to decline, and overall living costs are soaring. Criminal groups are rampant, with entire communities being attacked. Our cities are also being ravaged by floods,” he added.

“Given these hardships, is it any wonder that Nigerians are eager to express their frustrations with a government failing to tackle pertinent issues?” Sowore questioned.

“We are ready to protest and will do so in a peaceful manner. I assure you there will be thousands joining the protest on October 1. The cries of hunger and distress from Nigerians will not be silenced by the government,” he remarked during an interview shared on his social media.

The protest organizers in Lagos have indicated that their march will commence at Ikeja Under Bridge at 7:30 am.
