Adele is indisputably one of the biggest recording artists around today.
Even though she hasn’t had new music out since 2015, she’s still on fans’ minds, on magazine covers, and streaming (on Pandora at least).
While we patiently stand by for new music from the 31-year-old, find out what the singer surprisingly said she would do if all the fame, adoration and speculation ended today.
Her vow to stop touring
In 2017, her lengthy 25 tour took her through North America, the U.K., Ireland, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. She had a handwritten note inserted into each program of her final show at Wembley Stadium in London explaining why this was probably her final show for a very long time.
She wrote in the personal note, “Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn’t suit me particularly well,” Adele said. “I’m a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things. Plus I’m dramatic and have a terrible history of touring. Until now that is! … It has been hard out an absolute thrill and pleasure to have done. I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favorite artists have had on me live.”
She ended the note with her signature authenticity and gratitude to her fans for all their “ridiculous love and kindness. I will remember all of this for the rest of my life.”
Hopefully, she was just tired that day from such a wearying tour. We’ll have to wait and see if she agrees to tour after all once she’s released new music.
When will we get new music from Adele?
Speaking of which, while there is no definite announcement from the Hello singer regarding new music dropping, there were huge hints of a very good possibility of it from People in September this year.
“She is definitely getting ready both mentally and physically to promote new music. It seems it will happen later this year,” according to a source who is close to the English artist. “She talks about last year as a very difficult year, and she’s said in the past that creating new music is almost like therapy. You can tell that she is ready to share with her fans.”
“She is so busy, but her life is better-rounded than it was before,” the source said. “She is very fulfilled being an artist. New music is still a big deal for her, and she feels alive and happy.”
If her career stopped today
Adele opened up to Vogue in 2016 about what pushed her in her teens to begin creating musically.
She talked about her high school and how her “music teacher was s–t. Unencouraging,” she said.
She was able, at the age of fourteen, to ace an audition for the performing-arts BRIT School, performing Stevie Wonder’s Free.
Getting into that school validated Adele’s belief in herself. Her school’s music department head at that time had his students compose their own songs, and that was when Adele felt the freedom to express herself through music.
She hasn’t forgotten her music teacher’s influence on her life and career.
“If it wasn’t for him,” she says, “I probably wouldn’t have written Hometown Glory and Daydreamer.”
“I think being a teacher is one of the most important jobs in the world. If my career stopped, it’s what I’d do.”
