Why Britney Spears Regrets Her Matching Tattoo With Ex-Husband Kevin Federline

Britney Spears has a lot of baggage in her history, but she seems to have moved past that in many ways. However, there is one undeniable reminder of her former life that is etched upon her skin: She has a small tattoo of a pair of dice on the inside of her left wrist, and it’s a symbol of her former marriage.

Spears isn’t the first celebrity to have to walk around sporting reminders of her past relationships in the form of tattoos — and at least hers isn’t an obvious reference to her ex like his name. But it does seem that the tattoo bothers her and that she regrets the decision to get it.

Britney Spears’ career has seen a huge comeback

After bursting onto the scene with a series of hit songs like “Oops! . . . I Did it Again” and “. . . Baby One More Time” in the late 1990s, Spears seemed poise to have a legendary musical career. Unfortunately, she struggled with her mental health, and it was almost certainly not helped by the pressures of being in the spotlight at such a young age.

The star famously spiraled. In 2007, she shaved her head, attacked a photographer’s car with an umbrella, and was involuntarily checked into a mental health facility for treatment.

For a long time, it looked as if Spears’ career was over though it thankfully seemed like she had gotten the treatment she needed to recover. However, she surprised and delighted fans when she came back to the music scene looking stronger than ever.

In fact, her music and contribution to the entire industry are frequently heralded as iconic, which is a sharp turn from the cruel and mean-spirited way the singer had become a punchline back in the late 2000s.

In the midst of her struggles to maintain control of her mental health, Spears entered a tumultuous relationship with backup dancer Kevin Federline. The entire relationship played out in tabloid headlines, and it, too, became a punchline about the star’s decline.

After only a few months of dating, Spears proposed to Federline. He declined and then turned around and proposed to her instead. The pair then invited family and friends to an “engagement party” that turned out to be a surprise wedding in 2004.

All of this was captured in a brief reality series called Britney and Kevin: Chaotic. The five-episode series was largely panned by fans as being a career-killing move for the once-revered songstress. The pair had two sons shortly after they were married, and her response to motherhood became another source of headline-grabbing criticism for Spears.

Spears filed for divorce from Federline just two years after they were married. The divorce was final in 2007, which coincided with the star’s most famous breakdown. The breakup, custody battles, and messy divorce also played out for the public eye, leaving even more sore spots in Spears’ public image.

Britney Spears regrets her tattoo

With all of that baggage from the marriage and that time in her life in general, it would make sense that Spears would regret the small pair of dice inked onto her wrist. The tattoo is a matching symbol of her relationship with Federline.

She captioned a photo on Instagram: “Albert Einstein once said “God does not play dice with the universe” …. so maybe I shouldn’t have gotten the pink dice 7 on my left arm 🎲🎲 !!!!! I don’t even like ink …. guess I should remove it ?!?!!!!”

Reports suggest that Spears is considering having the tattoo removed. If she did, it wouldn’t be the first symbol from her past that she erased.

In 2008, she had a Kabbalah-themed tattoo removed from her neck. That one had been inspired by Madonna and was a Hebrew inscription about healing. In a post about the dice tattoo, Spears admitted that she doesn’t “even like ink” and mused about having it removed at well.

These days, despite some new rumblings sparked by her teenage son that she may be struggling with her mental health again, Spears seems to be in good spirits and a strong relationship with her boyfriend Sam Asghari. As fans speculate the two may be headed into marriage, removal of the tattoo would be one more way for Spears to show she is truly done with the past.
